Lacking confidence? Build self-trust.
I don't remember the exact moment I stopped trusting myself.
There was no single event. No dramatic personal betrayal I could point to, and say yup, that was it. Just a slow, depressing descent into self loathing, broken promise by broken promise.
Gym tomorrow. Dry January. The script idea I'd talk about at dinner and never write. The business I wanted to build, the brand I wanted to launch, the writing (hello) that I wanted to publish.
Ten years of small cancellations, and I'd happily built a life where my own word to myself meant fuck all. I didn't even notice I was doing it. We never do. But I noticed I lacked confidence all right. I knew I wanted to leave my job. I knew I wanted to leave the industry that had been my home for two decades. I knew I wanted to live, to create, to share, to be of service, and to explore what might be possible for me. But all of that, lovely as it sounds, requires confidence. Confidence in one's own word and one's own actions.
